22.5

Late last night, I suddenly realized that it was my half birthday. Instead of being a happy moment, it was more of a "Oh shit! What am I doing with my life" moment.

It didn't help that on Tuesday, the very day Nick announced his sweet job (Congrats BTW), I had filled out an application to work minimum wage at Gamestop.

Thanks, cruel irony. FML

Don't worry, that's the end of the downer talk, because in reality life isn't all that bad. Actually, the Gamestop job is coming about because a good friend of mine let me know that they could use some extra help over the holidays. He's worked there since High School, so it can't be that bad. Plus, I could use the extra cash while I work on applications to grad schools and legit jobs.

Meanwhile, I may become part of a very interesting business adventure. The scoutmaster who hired me for camp and the canoe trip wants my help with a new idea of his. Basically, he wants to start selling stuff to the government, especially now that his new partner gives them veteran owned small business status. My job would be to look for opportunities that his company can bid for. I would do this on my own, and I wouldn't get a salary. However, if I found a lead that led to a successful contract, he would compensate me for it.

Yesterday, we went to a sort of meet and greet with other companies, and I realized that I'm probably in way over my head (remember, I went to engineering school, not business school). I'm still going to give it my best shot though. At worst, it just wastes some of my time, but if I can actually find success, it could be well worth it.

  1. If I remember correctly, GameStop also has the awesome pseudolegal practice of employees "renting" new games. Whereby you get to play new games prior to initial sale, and then reshrinkwrap them and sell them as "new". So you should get pre-release access to games + $ off games. So its not that bad of a deal.

The searching for leads sounds like it could be good experience. Out of curiosity though, what is it that you are trying to sell?

  3. Sweet opportunity, Brian, good luck with that! Don't fret about Gamestop- I have three jobs right now and none of them pay above minimum wage...

  4. good luck brian! Don't worry about the pay, I just took recycling to walmart and got $5.30 back. The sad thing is, I was really excited because it was the first time in like 2 months that I have had money coming in instead of going out. lol. what would you be selling?
